Grand Cayman and 23 months

We just returned from an amazing vacation to Grand Cayman with Grant's parents and brother and sister-in-law. As you can see from the pictures, Alex had a blast! He was absolutely fearless with the ocean and the waves and jumping into the pool (he didn't want anyone to catch him, preferring to sink and flail for a while before being rescued). He was Mr. Popular around the resort - it seemed that everyone (especially other kids) knew his name. What amazed us the most is that in one short week he seemed to mature 3 - 4 months! I've heard this happens when kids are in new environments, but I was still so surprised.
Alex LOVED the time spent with Grammy and Grandpa. The first thing he would ask for in the morning or after nap was to see Grandpa. It was really fun to see this relationship blossom. Alex wanted very little to do with me, but since I was reading a really great book I welcomed the break!
23 month update:
- Alex is saying lots of short sentences and talks non-stop. At this point we understand almost everything he says and just need to fill in the blanks for him. His favorite phrase is "Watch this!"
- Alex has a much longer attention span and can sit and play with things for longer periods of time.
- Alex loves to spend time with other people and every morning he runs through the list of people that he hopes we are going to see that day, "Aunt Jenni's house?" "Levi's house?" "Julie's house?" etc. It's a sad day when our big outing is the grocery store. :-)
